Pareo/Pareu
- A garment consisting of a rectangular piece of printed cloth worn especially in Polynesia by men and women as a wraparound skirt.
Pashmina
- Finest grade of cashmere that is a short, thin inner layer hair from Himalayan goats of 12-14 microns thick (human hair is 75 microns)
Pantliner/Underliner
- A pantliner is any undergarment that begins at the waist and extends down past the mid-calf.
- A pantliner can be pantaloon-like and worn as a slip for unlined pants, or it can be form-fitting to slim and smooth the legs.
- Can also be called an underliner.
Pantyhose/Tights
- Pantyhose, or tights, is hosiery that goes from the waist all the way down to, and including, the toes.
(Maternity) Pantyhose
- Maternity Pantyhose features graduated compression to help prevent development of varicose veins offen associated with pregnancy. Sometimes footless.
Peasant sleeve
- Sleeve with elastic hem edge as used in a peasant blouse.
Peasant top
- Romantic style often characterized with a low neckline, ruffles, or free flowing material. (the scarf in the picture is and adornment).
Peek-a-boo
- Any part of the garment which has been cut out to reveal skin.
Peignoir
- A peignoir is a woman’s intimate dressing gown.
Petticoat
- An underskirt usually a little shorter than outer clothing and often made with a ruffled, pleated, or lace edge.
Pieced
- A look created by sewing several pieces of material together to form the garment, much like a quilt.
Pinafore
- Originally used to protect dresses from dirt, it was adopted as a fashion piece and worn as a sleeveless dress or over a blouse. (In the picture, the petticoat is not part of the pinafore).
Placket
- The piece of cloth that reinforces a split or opening in a garment; that usually also serves as the closure.
Point collar
- Traditional Formal Point Collar Shirt for men.
- A collar with ties used to attach women’s sleeves to their gowns.
Polo
- T-Shirt of a style used to play polo.
- Features a collar and usually a two- or three-button placket
- Also known as tennis shirt or golf shirt
Poncho
- A blanketlike cloak having a hole in the center for the head.
- Designed to keep the body dry during rain, they are used now to look fashionable, loose and comfortable.
princess seams
- Seams that can be found in the front or the back of a garment that create a form-fitting shape.
puckered bodice
- Usually associated with tube tops, it provides a scrunchy look.
puff sleeve/pouf sleeve
- A full sleeve of varying lengths, created by generous gathering around the armhole.
Pullover
- Knitted sleeveless garment put on over the head and covering top half of the body.
pumps
- Light, patent leather shoe with a flat, dull-silk bow at the instep. Akin to the Albert shoe, and only worn with evening clothes or dinner clothes.
push-up bra
- Type of bra designed to lift the breasts and give them a rounder shape.
push-up jeans
- Spandex in the jeans helps to lift and shape your rear.
